Hardware Specifications, is your equipment adequate?

As a general rule, an inadequate server will severely impact on performance. The key difference between PracSoft's Access version and the SQL Server version is that the server now does all of the database work on the server's processor. This reduces network traffic enormously and removes the dependence on a very fast and perfectly tuned network for stability. With this in mind our recommendations are as follows:

• A late model server with a fast CPU and lots of RAM.
• A single processor server rather than a dual processor - many Microsoft server products are now licensed by number of processors, and this may save you licensing costs in the future.
• A minimum of Windows 98 for client workstations.
